About the intern: Alexandra

My name is Alexandra Basar and I am one of the five interns the Association of Urban Farming has this summer. I am from Memphis, Tennessee and I am currently a part of Onwards Sustainability and Green Energy Program. For the past three years, I have been studying Environmental Science and Biology at University. This is my third time visiting Israel, and I am so happy to be doing what I love in one of my favorite places.
Back in the states, I have worked on two farms, and the Association has provided me with my first experience with urban farming units. We get to work with hydroponic techniques such as: N.F.T (Nutrient Film Technique), drip systems, traditional garden beds. I am learning the importance of urban farming within the local economy and community within Tel Aviv. All the interns have been going to various projects around the city, ranging from

helping with the rooftop garden and working with Balfour and Ha'Yarden school on the kid’s end of the year project. I have loved being able to see the enthusiasm and care the kids have for the plants and community gardens they are a part of. There is so much more in store for the month to come, and I am really excited to be working with such an amazing organization for the rest of the summer. ✴
